Queen of Sheba

Queen of Sheba
Scripture References: 1 Kings 10:1-13; 2 Chronicles 9:1-12; Matthew 12:42

A Woman of Discovery

Read 1 Kings 10:1-13

Her visit shows us that King Solomon had fame that spread out over the world.

“Jesus reports that this ‘queen of the South...came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon’ (Matthew 12:42). Her journey from Southern Arabia to Jerusalem by camel caravan across some 1200-plus miles of desert serves as a model for us all. Why? Because she journeyed to see and hear the wisdom of King Solomon -the wisdom of the Lord -and to learn more about this God he relied on.” -Elizabeth George

(v. 1)

The Queen of Sheba was a woman who discovered truth for herself.

How can you personally discover truth all on your own without relying on someone else? In what areas of your life do you need to do this more?

She was drawn to the influence of King Solomon’s fame and also the relationship he had with God.

Was there someone in your life who had a relationship with God before you were a Christian that was appealing to you? Does your relationship with God stir up a hunger in others to have their own?

The Queen of Sheba was a woman of determination who used her mind and tested him with hard questions.

In what ways is determination good and in what ways is it bad?

(v. 2)

The Queen of Sheba found answers to the questions that she had and shares all that is on her mind! She was outspoken in an inquisitive manner.

(v. 7)

She was rejoicing that what she had heard about him was true and in the fruit of was she saw in his life. Such fulfillment comes when you discover the truth and wisdom that you set your heart on to find. It is worth the journey!

(v. 13)

Solomon gave her many gifts.

Wisdom is a journey. Where do we start?

Read 1 Kings 4:29. Why did Solomon have wisdom?

Proverbs 31:26 says that the Proverbs 31 woman spoke with wisdom. How do you “speak with wisdom”? What does that look and sound like?

What was present according to Jeremiah 10:12 when God founded the world.

What wisdom important to Jesus? Read Luke 2:52

What is God’s wisdom described as in Romans 11:33?

Read Colossians 2:3. How can you discover this more in your personal life?

James 1:5 is the key to receiving the wisdom you need every day for every moment!
