Elizabeth

ELIZABETH

About her:

Elizabeth was:

  • the cousin of Mary.
  • of the priestly line of Aaron.
  • married to a priest named Zechariah.
  • blameless before the Lord.
  • barren and advanced in years.
  • the only woman called righteous in the New Testament.
  • the mother of John the Baptist.
  • the first woman to confess Jesus in the flesh.

Elizabeth means “God is my treasure” or “God is the one by whom I swear”

Her time to shine:

Elizabeth was a woman of devotion. Although they lived a blameless life they still suffered.

The only way to get through difficult times is to constantly fellowship with Jesus.

“The light received from the Lord each new day fuels our love relationship with Him, keeps the flame of our hope burning, and kindles strength for one more day, whatever it may hold.” -Elizabeth George

v. 24 She kept herself hidden.

God was doing something. It is in those hidden times that the Lord is birthing things in our lives. We do not always have to share what He is doing in our lives apart from others until it is the appropriate time to.

When the Lord gave Elizabeth a child she was humble. She didn’t parade around town and make it her glory. The Lord and what He was up to and what He was doing was her delight.

We have to walk away and turn our backs on Christianity that is about us and not Jesus.

It was during this time that God gave Elizabeth a sensitivity and prepared her heart for Mary’s arrival and news.

Quiet time with God is SO important.

Elizabeth took care of Mary during her first trimester. I love this! I love how the Lord was looking after Mary emotionally AND physically during these emotional and physically challenging days during pregnancy!

Elizabeth was a Spirit-filled woman. She prophesied over Mary. She was sensitive and recognized what the Lord was doing and was able to confidently walk in it.

Her source of encouragement to Mary was tremendous.

Her Labor Story:

v. 57 There was no disobedience to God. That was out of the question. They had already handed over their wills to the Lord. Obedience to the Lord was an issue that was already settled in their hearts as the learned the secret of contentment in their barren years. God used the testing and trial of Elizabeth’s barrenness to prepare them for this day and time.

Ask yourself: Do you live like God exists for you or like you exist for God?

Elizabeth dedicated her life to God’s sovereignty and to His purposes.
