A SOUND MIND

Thank you Lord! The Holy Spirit has been bringing to mind this morning 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." So often in times of heavy emotion, little sleep and/or trial we are tempted to allow every thought that knocks on the door of our mind to enter in and have a seat! Lord help us! I so want to grow out of that. God enables us by His Spirit to have self-control and not have to be enslaved to tormenting and depressing thoughts. It is so sweet to go through your day in victory and joy...being an over-comer in the battle against your flesh. We are all in this sisters! Do not think you suffer days of intense emotion or negative thoughts alone! What an opportunity to witness the power of God working inside of you. Ephesians 3:20 NASB "Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all we ask or think, according to the power that works within us." And how encouraging it is to know "that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6). Remember...God has given you a sound mind. The word for "sound mind" in the Greek derived from a word that means "heal, preserve, save, do well, be whole." The battlefield is mostly in our minds and that is where we need God to come in and take over. Be in God's Word. Read it, meditate on it and memorize it. Be in it all throughout the day. Fill your thoughts with scripture. Psalm 107:20 says, "He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions." Apply the ointment of God's Word to your mind because it is God's will for you to live your life with a healed, whole and preserved mind. He died on the cross to give that to you. Thank you Jesus! Comment with any other thoughts or scriptures that God has given you concerning your thought life.

Hey Rach-
Scripture that comes to mind is Romans 12:1,2. Therefore, I urge you, brothers(sisters), in view of God's mercy, to offer our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing, to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform to this world any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is- his good and perfect will. When I get down, i try to evaluate, what am I reading, watching, listening to is it all God centered? if it's not then I am getting caught up in the pattern of this world and the pattern of this world is darkness, confusion, depression. I don't want that, I want peace and light which is Jesus (His good and perfect will). I ask the Holy Spirit burn away anything not of God. Asking, humbling, offering, How cool offering our bodies is a spiritual act of worship! Does this make sense to you?
All for Christ.
"I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, that He considered me faithful, appointing me to his service."
~1st Timothy 1 V.12

Yes! I was just thinking over that verse this morning! Crazy how God works. We need the gates and hedges of His Word to guard our hearts and homes. Good word about the evaluating...we can forget how easily we are affected by those things and how much we need to be washed and redirected in God's Word. It also reminds me of Col 3:2 "Set your mind on things above, not on things on earth."

Actually, a quote that I see on posters in school comes to mind as I read this. It says "watch your thoughts, they become words, watch your words, they become actions, watch your actions, they become your character." By letting God's beauty and His teachings consume our thoughts, we will be more capable of reflecting Him with the way that we live. I was so blessed when I read this post! I know I've been striving toward letting Him consume me and block out things of this world and of my flesh. I've been trying to memorize more scripture to defend my mind, and these verses are definitely being committed to mind. Thank you so much! God bless! :)

ok.
So this isnt as put together as id like it to be, and i can't back up everything i say with exact scripture... but this is the general idea.
When we were studying 2 Timothy 1:9-12 my pastor posed this question: Are you panic proof? He didnt go into it in detail but it really got me thinking. God's plan for us is to have "peace that passes understand". So why do I panic over things that are so small. I mean, they may not seem small at the time but, the end of verse 12 says : " I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day." If I have entrusted God with everything, then why do I start to panic over so many things that aren't worthy it in the long run?

That is what i got out of it, I'm not sure if its entirely accurate...but im pretty sure there is more to that idea. Please comment :)
